Cybersecurity Legislation and Education

The increase of data breaches and cyber-attacks have pushed governments to take different measures to tighten the cybersecurity. There are numerous methods and techniques regarding hacking, and these practices are always evolving. Therefore, governments need to come up with various measures and innovative strategies to counter and eliminate attacks. However, they must implement concrete types of cybersecurity legislation in order to achieve this.

From Luxembourg to Australia, many governments have come up with different measures and policies to efficiently counter and eliminate cyber-threats. For example, Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg arrived at a decision to pass a new piece of cybersecurity legislation. The legislation will aim to ride on the wave of digitization and reduce the economic impact of cyber threats.

Furthermore, the Louisiana government collaborates with leading cybersecurity education providers and tech universities to train current and upcoming cyber professionals. In addition, the Australian government is in process of building an uplifting team. This team would provide assistance to cyber agencies to counter the threats in practical and effective ways.

With different steps taken by governments across the world, the industry for cybersecurity experiences a boost. According to the research firm Allied Market Research, the global cybersecurity market is estimated to reach $258.99 billion by 2025. Following are some of the activities conducted by governments to ensure the safety of data and reduction in number of cyber-attacks:

Luxembourg’s New Cybersecurity Legislation to Improve Cybersecurity

Nearly 80% of the European businesses have undergone various types of cyber-attacks in past couple of years. Determining the need to stop this prevalence of attacks, Luxembourg’s the Chamber of Deputies decided to pass cybersecurity legislation. This bill involves application of EU directive to the legislation of Luxembourg.

According to rapporteur Eugène Berger (Democratic Party), there are innumerable cyber risks in Luxembourg. This new bill applies uniform rules for suppliers and digital service operators. Hopefully, this piece of cybersecurity legislation will foster a preemptive retake of system security in design and defense. If any attack occurs, operators must report them to relevant authorities. The Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier (CSSF) is the authority for the financial sector. The Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) is the authority for other sectors such as transport, energy, and postal sectors. The MPs have passed the bill unanimously. They realized the significance of the directive related to digitization and the economic impact of cyber-attacks.

Cybersecurity Educational Ecosystem of Louisiana to be Improved

Along with cybersecurity legislation, educating people about cyber insurance is essential to reduce the effects of cyber-attacks. Thankfully, organizations and leaders in the cybersecurity market have been taking different steps. One of those important steps involves the betterment of the educational ecosystem of cybersecurity.

Cybint Solutions and Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) have collaborated to enhance the cybersecurity educational ecosystem of Louisiana. Chiefly, their aim is to offer knowledge of advanced tools, expertise, and skills to cyber professionals. John Bel Edwards, the Governor of Louisiana, revealed the formation of the new Cyber Center Hub of North Louisiana. This is a collaboration between the state, Cybint, BPCC, Grambling University, Northwestern State University, Louisiana Tech University, and Louisiana State University-Shreveport.

This new center will provide the Cybint’s extensive suite of multi-level cyber education. Additionally, workforce development offerings will play a large role in the center. This course involves cyber literacy for non-technical to advanced professionals and hands-on experience on simulation-labs, Moreover, it provides a cyber-range environment for those interested in a cyber-security career.

Australian Government’s Cybersecurity Uplifting Team

In the realm of cybersecurity legislation and education, the Australian government does their part. Indeed, they have taken many measures to strengthen their cybersecurity. For example, The Australian CyberSecurity Centre (ACSC) established a cybersecurity flying squad for accelerating the efforts to raise the Commonwealth’s cyber posture. This squad has been awarded an undisclosed amount of funding to enhancing the capabilities of federal government system.

Around 10 cybersecurity professionals with a baseline security clearance will be working for the government uplift team. ACSC outlined that the role of this team is to offer technical advice in different situations and scenarios. Additionally, they must help agencies uplift their cyber posture and implement their cybersecurity legislation. Moreover, the cybersecurity arrangements for the government systems will improve by countering cyber attacks and upgrading monitoring capabilities.

There is also a small crack team located at the ‘protect and assure’ branch of ACSC. This team arrived after the malicious attack on the Parliament House in February. Moreover, it has been found that nearly 40 percent of agencies have been struggling to implement the top four policies in first six years after they were made mandatory. The new team also has the task of providing assistance to various agencies to counter the threats by converting the IT security policies into practical, technical, and effective implementation strategies.
